Me l'a-t'on vraiment dit que tu m'aimais encore ?

English:

They tell me our lives aren’t worth much,
That they pass in an instant, like roses wilt
They tell me that the time rushing by is a bitch
Which dresses up in our sorrow

Yet someone told me you still love me
Yes, someone told me you still love me
So can that be?

They say destiny ridicules us
That it gives us nothing and promises all
Happiness seems to be at hand
So we reach out, only to go mad

Yet someone told me you still love me
Yes, someone told me you still love me
So can that be?

But who was it who told me you always loved me?
I don’t remember anymore, it was late at night,
I can still hear the voice, but not see features,
“He loves you, it’s a secret, don’t tell him I’ve told you.”

You see, someone told me you still love me
Did they really tell me you still love me?
So can that be?

They tell me our lives aren’t worth much,
That they pass in an instant, like roses wilt
They tell me that the time rushing by is a bitch
Which dresses up in our sorrow

Yet someone told me you still love me
Yes, someone told me you still love me
So can that be?

Quando sei qui con me
Questa stanza non ha piu pareti
Ma alberi, alberi infiniti
E quando tu sei vicino a me
Questo soffitto, viola, no
mmmhhhhhhhh
Et pour toi, et pour moi.
mmmhhhhhhhh

English:

When you are close to me
This room doesn’t have walls anymore
But trees, yes, endless trees,
And when you are so very close to me,
It’s as if that ceiling there,
No longer exists.  I see the sky suspended over us,
While we rest here like this,
Abandoned just as if,
There isn’t anything else anymore, anything else in the world
I hear a harmonica . . . but it feels like an organ
Which plays its song for you, and for me,
High up there in the endless sky

And for you, and for me
(the Italian stanza’s pretty much the same as the French – which is clear even to me (when my Italian is virtually non-existent :P))

Le Parapluie - Carla Bruni et Yann Tiersen

Français:

Il pleuvait fort sur la grand-route
Ell'cheminait sans parapluie
J'en avais un, volé, sans doute
Le matin même à un ami
Courant alors à sa rescousse
Je lui propose un peu d'abri
En séchant l'eau de sa frimousse
D'un air très doux, ell' m'a dit " oui "

Un p'tit coin d'parapluie
Pour un coin d'paradis
Elle avait quelque chos' d'un ange
Un p'tit coin d'paradis
Pour un coin d'parapluie
Je n'perdais pas au chang', pardi

Chemin faisant, que ce fut tendre
D'ouïr à deux le chant joli
Que l'eau du ciel faisait entendre
Sur le toit de mon parapluie
J'aurais voulu, comme au déluge
Voir sans arrêt tomber la pluie
Pour la garder, sous mon refuge
Quarante jours, quarante nuits

Un p'tit coin d'parapluie
Pour un coin d'paradis
Elle avait quelque chos' d'un ange
Un p'tit coin d'paradis
Pour un coin d'parapluie
Je n'perdais pas au chang', pardi

Mais bêtement, même en orage
Les routes vont vers des pays
Bientôt le sien fit un barrage
A l'horizon de ma folie
Il a fallu qu'elle me quitte
Après m'avoir dit grand merci
Et je l'ai vue toute petite
Partir gaiement vers mon oubli

Un p'tit coin d'parapluie
Pour un coin d'paradis
Elle avait quelque chos' d'un ange
Un p'tit coin d'paradis
Pour un coin d'parapluie
Je n'perdais pas au chang', pardi

English:

It was raining hard on the main road
She was making her way without an umbrella
I had one, stolen, no doubt,
That same morning from a friend.
Then, running to her rescue,
I offered her a bit of shelter
To dry the water from her smiling face
Very sweetly, she said ‘yes’

A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
There was something of an angel about her
A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
I certainly lost nothing in the exchange

On the way, it was good
To hear together the pretty hymn
Made by water from the sky
On the top of my umbrella
I had wanted, as in a flood
To see the rain fall ceaselessly
To keep her there, under my refuge
For 40 days and 40 nights

A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
There was something of an angel about her
A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
I certainly lost nothing in the exchange

But stupidly, even in a storm,
Roads head out to little villages,
Soon hers became an obstacle
On the horizon of my madness
She had to leave me
After thanking me profusely
And I saw her, so slight, so small
Go, content, towards forgetting me.

A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
There was something of an angel about her
A little corner of an umbrella
For a corner of paradise
I certainly lost nothing in the exchange
